Suzuki S-Presso Overview
The Suzuki S-Presso is a small hatchback that rides on a substantial amount of ground clearance for its class. it also serves as the Japanese brand's most affordable entry into the segment, replacing its then most affordable model, the Alto. It can seat five passengers and is powered by a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. The single transmission option available to the vehicle is a 5-speed manual. It offers prospective buyers a high riding vehicle without breaking the bank.
- Launch
-
The Suzuki S-Presso had no formal live launch due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) put into place by the Philippine government during March and April of 2020. The vehicle was released by the Japanese brand quietly but with the help of the media. The S-Presso comes only available in one variant and one transmission option. It comes with a 1-liter naturally aspirated engine that it shares with its Celerio brother. The engine can only be had with a 5-speed manual transmission as there is no automatic variant available yet on the market.
The Suzuki S-Presso slots directly under its stablemate the Celerio and now takes the spot as the most affordable vehicle in the Suzuki Philippines lineup. It replaces the Alto in that respect. The S-Presso is a small city runabout vehicle that offers seating for five in a small form factor with a thrifty engine idea for a city vehicle.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The Suzuki S-Presso utilizes the Japanese brand's HEARTECT platform giving the vehicle a rigid structure that can easily spread the impact force of a crash. It comes with a 1-liter naturally aspirated K10B engine that it shares with the Celerio and a 5-speed manual transmission. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The small city vehicle comes with Macpherson suspension struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. It also rides on 14-inch wheels.
- Driving Performance
-
Driving the S-presso is made easy thanks to its lightweight frame. Even if it is a manual transmission, the car remains very easy to operate requiring not that much force to actuate the clutch pedal and to get going. There is a tendency for the model to showcase a bit of body roll in the corners thanks to its added ground clearance, and NVH insulation is not the best in the business, so on the highway noise can get a bit intrusive. However, handling in the city is stellar, thanks to its small stature and its high ground clearance, meaning that at lower speeds and over slightly more worrisome potholes, the small hatchback makes do and does so well enough.
- Technology Features
-
The Suzuki S-Presso has little in the way of technology. It does feature a 7-inch touchscreen display that comes with Bluetooth and AUX connectivity and features a USB port for charging. In addition to the infotainment system vehicle also comes with manual climate controls. For added convenience, the vehicle also comes with a rear parking assist system in the form of ultrasonic sensors found on the rear bumper of the vehicle.
- Exterior
-
The Suzuki S-Presso comes with a boxy body on the exterior and features four doors and a hatch at the rear. The vehicle resembles a hatchback on stilts as it also features a taller ride height compared to the rest of the vehicles in its segment. It comes with black plastic lower bumpers at the front and rear as well as halogen lamps for the front and back. It rides on 14-inch wheels all around.
- Interior
-
The Suzuki S-Presso on the interior features a black-themed interior with plastic accents found all around the cabin. Its seats come in black fabric material with the center part of each seat coming in with a red cross-stitched pattern adding a bit of sportiness to the interior. Setting it apart from the rest of the vehicles in the segment is a center-mounted orange gauge cluster. While it may take some time to get used tot he odd confirmation the gauges are placed well within the driver's line of sight.
- Safety
-
The Suzuki S-Presso for safety features the company's' HEARTECT platform. This gives the vehicle cabin protection in the event of a collision by efficiently absorbing and dispersing the crash energy. It utilizes tensile steel to achieve both lightness and stellar safety performance. On top of the platform, the vehicle also comes with dual airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as ABS and 3-point seatbelts for all occupants.
